In it’s 4th year, Councillor Mike Pagtakhan hosted his annual Family Bike-B-Q fun ride and fiesta where over 140 participants peddled their way from Northgate Shopping Centre to Kildonan Park last September. This year’s theme of “Heros” was inspired by the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and participants came dressed as super heros and even Dr. Jose Rizal in a uniquely built ped-bike just like in the Philippines.
The annual family fun event features a parade of bikers (cyclists) of varying age with the youngest at 5 years old to a youthful age of 78. All 140+ cyclists are under the watchful eyes of the Winnipeg Police Service as they are escorted in safety from vehicular traffic. At Kildonan Park, everyone was treated to a good old fashioned BBQ fiesta, with prizes and awards.
Just like Chito Sta. Brigida, a 4-year Bike-B-Q veteran, and several cycling enthusiasts will help grow this annual event. In addition, community participation and volunteer support from Filipino groups such as the Filipino Seniors, Ilocano Association and the Bacoor Association have added to the Bike-B-Q success.
