Asian hockey is growing in Winnipeg and having the Winnipeg Jets back in town is certainly fuelling it’s growth. In 2011, the Winnipeg Emperors flew down to Toronto with one squad to compete in the 22-year old Asian Hockey Championships in North York, Ontario. Fast forward to 2012, and the Winnipeg Emperors are sending down two teams to compete in two different divisions. The Asian Hockey Championships have over 30 teams, and 600+ players competing in 6 different divisions which include men’s, women’s and children’s divisions.
