Bursary money for the University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association was raised at the breakfast fund raising event held recently at Canton Food Gallery.
“This will be our second year to grant bursary money for the accreditation for our members,” says Vangie Mance, presidednt of USTAA. “The awarding of the bursary will also held to coincide with the awarding of UST scholars selected by Scholarship Committee. In our last meeting last week, we narrowed down to 15 finalists out of the 26 applicants.”
Last year, there were three USTAA members who were granted bursary.
Meanwhile the final selection of this year 2016 UST scholars will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 3:30 pm at the office Vangie Mance, at 838 Ellice and Arlington. All members of the scholarship committee are requested to attend to finalize the selection of scholars from the fifteen finalists. The $8,100 foundation money will be granted to the 7 or 8 scholars during the awarding ceremony on October 29, Saturday at 1 to 5 pm at the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita St. at Portage Ave.
Every year the University of Santo Tomas receives the money from the fund managed by the Winnipeg Foundation. And the foundation money is distributed the deserving grade 12 graduates from the various secondary schools who will take a post secondary course in the university.
