Steve Perry, the original singer of Journey surprised fans by recently making guest appearances during the US tour of the band Eels.

Perry thrilled the audience within the encore set of alternative rockers Eels in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He joined in on the Eels’ song “It’s A Motherfucker. Then Perry and the band launched into two Journey classics, 1981’s “Escape” power ballad “Open Arms” and 1979’s “Departure” album standout “Lovin,’ Touchin’, Squeezin'”.

Although Perry hasn’t been on stage since 1995, his return to Journey has been the cause of rock gossip and band denials for several years

For his part, Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda says that the door is open for the band’s former lead singer to rejoin group, adding that he wants to see Perry and his Journey bandmates happy together.

Pineda was previously rumored to be leaving Journey back in February, citing the demands that the band’s touring schedule places on his family. However, he shot down those reports by saying he is as happy to be in Journey today as he was when he first joined the group. He added that next to his family in Manila, Journey is his family.

But it seems Perry isn’t interested in getting his old job back. He said he wishes Arnel all of the very best as Journey’s lead singer. Perry further put down speculations that the “old” Journey might get back together in a reunion.
