Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago revealed at the Senate building yesterday that she has Stage 4 lung cancer. Her cancer is metastatic, it is not spreading. She is happy to say that her cancer is a very rare condition in which the cells in her left lung have developed a genetic mutation which gives them the energy to fight off cancer cells nearby.
She looked at her condition in a positive way and says, “Maybe God will send me another disease. I am very happy with the life that God gave me. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” Also, she quoted, “I don’t know the reactions of my enemies. Maybe, they will be happy because on one hand, I might die and they could get rid of me. But on the other hand, I might survive and then I will get rid of them.”
Her doctor advised her that she can still continue working while having this condition.
