Members of Winnipeg’s Filipino community were invited to a special round table meeting with Minister Yelich including the Filipino Journal, Manitoba Filipino Business Council, Filipino Community United Church, and Manitoba Street Festival. Concern regarding Canadian relief efforts, the new priority immigration application initiative and charitable matching funding were the main discussion points.
Canada is deeply concerned by the impact of Typhoon Haiyan. Our government has already announced up to $5 million in support to humanitarian organizations striving to meet the needs of the people affected by the typhoon and has established a mechanism to match donations made by individual Canadians to registered Canadian charities working in the Philippines and other affected countries
