Aaidh Al-Qarni, a prominent Saudi cleric who is also on the hit list of IS and Sheikh Turki Assaegh, a Saudi diplomat, were attacked by a lone gunman last Wednesday night in Western Mindanao State University.
The occurrence happened around 8:30 pm outside the gymnasium of the University.
Both Saudis survived the attack while the gunman, identified as 21 year old Rugasan Kiliste Misuari III, was shot dead by the policemen.
Al-Qarni sustained three gunshot wounds on his right shoulder, left arm and middle chest, while Assaegh sustained gunshot wounds on his right thigh and left leg.
Al-Qarni and Assaegh are in Zamboanga for a two-day symposium and Islamic lecture upon the Ulama council invitation. The last Symposium in the University was titled “Don’t be Sad” based on a book by Al-Qarni.
Investigations are currently being held to determine the motive of the assassination attempt.
