Back in August 22nd at the Garden City Shopping Centre, the Filipino Kidney Health Initiative (FILKHI) along with the assistance from the Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFOC) – Manitoba Branch created awareness on kidney disease prevention. FILKHI gave out informative handouts and kidney stress relievers to the general public along with a chance to win gift certificates from Booster Juice and Subway. “This could not be possible with the help of great volunteers” said Jon Reyes, Board of Director (BOD) of the Kidney Foundation who was joined by Executive Director Val Dunphy and fellow BOD Keith Fontaine. “I am glad we were able to create awareness as I did not not know till I was a BOD that kidney disease was high in our Filipino community.” Reyes has been with the KFOC for 3 years.
