Pinawa Dam

Pinawa Dam

We finally get to take a trip away from school and work even just for one day. Our target, the town of Pinawa. A small community one and half hours away from Winnipeg. Pinawa is close to Winnipeg River, which offers access to canoeing, kayaking and boating. This hidden gem in Eastern Manitoba houses destinations like suspension bridge and an old dam. First up was the Pinawa Dam, one of the Manitoba’s first hydro-electric generating station. The dam was made in response to the demand of electric power to Winnipeg and other towns around. On 1951, after 45 years of providing energy, the hydroelectric plant switched off the power. Now what left of the great pinawa dam is available for everybody to visit and enjoy the ruins that can be reminiscent of old castles in Europe.

Surrounded by beautiful waterscapes and walkways, this would be a “must-see” for people who enjoy close ups of industrial architectures that has been a big part of Manitoba’s history.
