Army Capt. Rhyan Batchar, spokesperson of the 10th Infantry Division said three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered last Aug. 1 to authorities in Mawab town, Compostela Valley, Batchar said the surrenderees are all members of the NPA’s Southern Mindanao Regional Committee. He said they were convinced by a former rebel to return to normal lives . He added that the surrender was further influenced by the increasing number of NPA fighters who chose to lead peaceful lives by availing of the government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP). Records show that 64 ex-NPAs have received livelihood and monetary assistance from CLIP since 2015. In the first seven months of this year, a total of 141 rebels have voluntarily surrendered to 10th Infantry Division units.
