On March 10, 2017, the 5th World Sikaran Tournament was held in Baras, Rizal, Philippines. The tournament was hosted by GM Meliton Geronimo Jr, representing the World Sikaran Brotherhood Philippines. Canada was represented by Winnipeg’s own Nemchel Sarmiento. Nemchel joined Sikaran at the age of 8 where she has been training under GM Dante Solomon Alambra at Sikaran Arnis School of Martial Arts Canada. Now at age 13, she entered the 5th World Sikaran Tournament in the black belt division. With her hard work and dedication, she accomplished her goals and brought home multiple medals. The results were 3rd place in traditional forms and 2nd place in sparring. What Nemchel cherishes the most is the overall experience, meeting new friends and making memories. Nemchel will now take a couple months off until she prepares to compete in the upcoming 6th World Sikaran Tournament to be held here in Winnipeg on May 5, 2018.
