Reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach and President Rodrigo Duterte finally met on Monday and discussed the possibility of holding the next edition of the Miss Universe Grand Coronation Night here in the Philippines.
In a video posted by the Presidential Broadcast Staff-Radio Television Malacañang on Facebook, Wurtzbach is seen shaking hands with the President at the Palace’s Music Room. The 26-year-old beauty queen have an exchange with the President in the local dialect, Wurtzbach is a native of Cagayan de Oro making Visayan her first language. New Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said the President has approved the proposal in principle since it would boost the tourism industry of the Philippines. The country last hosted the prestigious beauty pageant in 1994 where India’s Sushmita Sen was crowned by 1993 Miss Universe Dayanara Torres of Puerto Rico.
