Small Business of the Year
With extreme temperatures in Manitoba, the HVAC industry is always in high demand. My goal was to provide higher quality service at a more reasonable price.
For this year’s nomination, I am concentrating on our second brand, Mosaic Event Centre. We realized that a shift is occurring with the public away from traditional forms of memorialization and realized that our Mosaic Event Centre could offer a unique space to meet all celebrations that might occur, whether it be a wedding, social or memorial. In view of this, our tagline is Celebrating Life.
Our physiotherapy clinic served more than 3,000 people in the last five years since opening. There was no physiotherapy clinic that was Filipino-owned when we created the business. That is one of the reasons why we proceeded in opening the business.

Pullan Kammerloch Frohlinger – Lawyers (PKF) is a true legal institution in Western Canada having significant community impact and few rivals in the degree it advances entrepreneurship. We are a law firm that has proven expertise in vast and complex areas of practice. PKF handles a rich file of subjects in the interests of a wide variety of clients – from young multi-millionaire entrepreneurs fighting U.S. congress, the family disillusioned and trapped in the red tape of immigration, the business owner looking to safely take their business to the next level, and to assisting folks in purchasing their first homes.
No Limit Training is home to the afterburn workouts – a group personal training program for all fitness levels, where you’ll get high energy, fun and challenging workouts designed to burn maximum fat and tone your entire body in 30 minutes. I first got into the fitness industry to learn and apply techiniques to help my father who had some health issues. It later expanded to helping thousands of people. I am very thankful and blessed within this opportunity.

We’ve been operating a family business as a tuxedo rental shop and have done a lot of tailoring as a result of that. After years of receiving so many requests for customs suits, shirts and pants, it was time to really listen to our clientele and provide them with the additional services they wanted.
Made to Measure has been an integral and necessary part of our business because we are not only doing what we love and what we are great at, but we have listened to our customers’ requests and that listening has really paid off.
We work for our customers and, in turn, they help us support our family. Repeat customers have become like an extended family to us so we like to go above and beyond typical retail behaviour.
My business is an ecofriendly driven janitorial service. I originally wanted to start a water refill business, but when my dad retired (26+ years at Seven Oaks Hospital as the front entrance fulltime cleaner), I wanted to build a business around his expertise, passion and personality. While starting up the business, I started noticing how dirty some places are, such as restaurants, offices and houses. It was then that I remembered what I was taught at the business planning workshop which was: build a business around your expertise and build a business that solves a problem that the consumers are having. The problem was evident. Cleaning was lacking and cleaners in the city were starting to slack off. As for the expertise, that is where my father came in.
Just in Couture is Winnipeg’s premium, awardwinning designer planning and luxury decor company. We assist clients in planning their dream events. The majority of our company is based on producing premium weddings, but we do service birthdays, corporate events, debuts and funerals. We offer our clients planning, product rentals, flowers, cake design, cosmetology, video and photography referrals. The company was founded on the basis of producing luxury events that the guest can experience like no other events that they have attended before.
Contribution to the Community
As an immigrant myself, I know the hardships that families go through when they come to Canada not knowing anything about how banking is done and how it works. I’ve made it my personal mission to educate my clients of primarily new immigrants on how to set them up for financial success and help guide them on their path to meet their financial goals. I inform them of relevant information that I would’ve wanted to know when my family first immigrated to Canada.
When I was tasked with opening a physical office for Futurpreneur here in Manitoba, I looked at it as starting my own business and I have run it like an entrepreneur ever since. I believed in what this incredible organization was doing in other provinces and I knew that I could make a difference in Manitoba. I recognized that for young people, there was a lack of access to finance, business planningassistance, networks and skills. It is imperative that we invest in ways that stem the tide of young people leaving Manitoba’s communities in search of opportunities by helping them to create their own jobs and jobs for others. Also, as older entrepreneurs are set to retire, young entrepreneurs mustbe prepared to replace them. Investing in young people brings considerable rewards: small businesses led by young people are powerful job creators and record higher growth rates than other small and medium-sized businesses.
Shine Dental is a one-stop shop for all your dental needs. I started Shine in 2004 because I saw much room for my industry to improve. After returning from African on my first missions trip, I quit my job, desiring to be a dental missionary. Although God had other plans, from the onset of our new business with zero patients, we adopted an approach to graciously give back to the community here and aboard.
As a foreign-trained physiotherapist, it has not been easy for me to secure my license to practice. My desire to help fellow foreign-trained physiotherapists in the process of acquiring their licenses prompted me to open the business so I can provide a training ground where they can understand the healthcare system in Canada, see how physiotherapy is practiced in Canada and have access to a peer support system.
