Mayor Brian Bowman hosts the 118th Philippine Independence at the City Hall

The officers and members of the Manitoba Council of Canadian Filipino Associations together with the host, His Worship Mayor Brian Bowman held a Filipino Flag raising ceremony at the City Hall quadrangle June 9 to commemorate the 118th Philippine Independence.

The program commenced when Clarita Nazario, the immediate past president of the Bulacan Association delivered the opening remarks and the invocation before the attendees composed of some city councilors, leaders and members of some Filipino organizations and other guests. Julie Javier, member of the City of Winnipeg’s Citizens Equity Committee and a MaCFFA officer introduced the mayor as a guest speaker of the celebration. Mayor Brian Bowman had recognized the big contribution of the Filipino community in the city.Joy Lazo, director/mentor of Highlights Performing Group and president of FILCAN Arts Council, delivered the closing remarks.

Joy Lazo led the singing of the Philippine National Anthem as Mayor Bowman and the leaders of the Filipino community raised the Philippine Flag. A reception was held and followed by a visit to the council chamber.
