The Manitoba Filipino Business Council (MFBC) contributed $1000 towards Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in Winnipeg. The MFBC will join the league of fundraising efforts initiated by organizations including the Filipino Journal, The Canadian Red Cross and Filipino Seniors Group to support disaster relief in the Philippines.
“The wreckage left behind by Typhoon Haiyan has been devastating, and the lives of those affected will never be the same,” said MFBC President Jon Reyes. “That’s why it’s so important for Manitoba’s Filipino community to band together and support both our loved ones in the Philippines and each other. Our local organizations are working together to find creative ways to raise money and support those who need it most.”
MFBC’s donation will be directed towards the Calamity Fund, a relief fund supporting those affected by the natural disaster.
“MFBC’s mission is to be a leader in our community,” said MFBC Member Relations Chair Tes Aiello. “That being said, we hope to see others follow our cue. Our province’s efforts have already been immense, and we hope the momentum continues to build as more help is needed in the Philippines.”
The Calamity Fund is one of many accepting donations to help restore the wreckage left behind by Typhoon Haiyan. To learn more about the Calamity Fund, please call Aida Champagne, President of the Filipinos Senior Group Winnipeg, at 204-960-8530.
