This August, Rainbow Stage will produce the smash-hit musical that you already know you’re going to love – Mamma Mia! Featuring twenty ABBA songs, a mother, a daughter, and three possible dads Mamma Mia follows young Sophie in her search for identity, love, and her happily ever after. Mamma Mia! will be Directed by Ann Hodges, choreographed by Lisa Stevens, and conducted by Anthony Bastianon with a cast made up of Rainbow Stage veterans and newcomers to Winnipeg.
Making her Rainbow Stage debut, international singing sensation Ma-Anne Dionisio will return to her Winnipeg roots to play Donna, the fiercely strong and free-spirited matriarch. Born in the Philippines, Ms. Dionisio moved to Winnipeg in 1990 and three short years later was wowing audiences in Toronto as Kim in the award-winning original Canadian production of Miss Saigon. Known for her soaring soprano and dramatic flair, Ms. Dionisio has starred as Little Girl in Flower Drum Song (Broadway), as Maria in West Side Story (The Stratford Festival), Eponine in Les Misérables (Cameron Mackintosh), Grizzabella in Cats (Mirvish), and Sandy in Grease (TaurPro).
Local triple threat Jennifer Lyon returns to Rainbow Stage for her 14th season to play Tanya, Donna’s hilariously dry-witted, hard-partying pal and former bandmate. Ms. Lyon is known for her powerhouse vocals, impeccable comedic timing, and explosively energetic performances. Favorite roles at Rainbow Stage include Ethel McCormack (Footloose), Velma Von Tussle (Hairspray), and Ursula (The Little Mermaid).
Denise Oucharek makes her Rainbow Stage debut as Rosie – Donna’s fun-loving, sidesplittingly funny best pal. Ms. Oucharek received her B.Mus. and B.Ed. from Queen’s University & was the recipient of the 1997 Mississauga Arts Council Award as Emerging Artist in Theatre. Well established as a performer across Canada, Ms. Oucharek has appeared in Mamma Mia (Mirvish – original Canadian cast), The Sound of Music (Stratford Festival, Mirvish), and Carousel (Stratford Festival) among many others.
Ms. Dionisio, Ms. Lyon, and Ms. Oucharek are joined by principal players Olivia Sinclair-Brisbane (Sophie), Kevin McIntyre (Sam), Clint Butler (Harry), Arne MacPherson (Bill), Andrea del Campo (Allie), Michele Shuster (Lisa), Drew Plummer (Sky), Joseph Sevillo (Pepper) and Galen Johnson (Eddie). Also in the cast are Ryan Gifford, Jesse Grandmont, Rebekah Jones, Grant Landry, Tyler Leighton, Lia Loewen, Sarah Luby, Sophie McLeod, Brett Owen, and Catherine Wreford.
