The upcoming film adaptation by Erik Matti will feature Liza Soberano as the newest incarnation of Darna.
Soberano confirmed the news in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe. She said she would prepare for the role by working out at the gym and having stunt training, as well as acting, dialogue training, and dance workshops.
She succeeded Marian Rivera, who was the last to portray the Mars Ravelo character onscreen. Angel Locsin, who played Darna in 2005, was first tapped by Matti to star in his film but a back injury forced the actress out of the Star Cinema project.
