Larry Vickar Shares Tips on Balancing Personal and Business

Many of us see Larry Vickar present in the numerous Filipino parties and celebrations showing his support for our Filipino Community. It was a natural choice for the Manitoba Filipino Business Council to invite Larry to speak at our general meeting this past November 18th at CanadInns Polo Park. Larry, along with his wife Tova and numerous friends and team braved the first Winnipeg blizzard of 2010’s winter season to once again show his support to the Filipino community.

The Manitoba Filipino Business Council’s mission and goals are to help businesses progress towards success, every member is there to better themselves and their business. One of the many challenges of business owners is how to balance their personal and business life. How did Larry Vickar build a successful business 40 years in the automotive industry, own 3 dealerships, and manage to sit on non-profit boards such as the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba and the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation? Most impressive is that he has been married to his wife Tova for over 38 years and together they raised a family amidst all of the activity.

How did he do it? Members were privileged to his observations and words of advice which included topics such as his take on the digital age and the smart use of smart phones; hiring key people to work as a team in your business and characteristics to look for when hiring; how his wife and family’s support were key in their journey to success; and to always keep an open mind for new ways of doing things. This was just to name a few, there was also a question and answer period to further gather information from Larry.

MFBC Inc is thankful to have had Larry and Tova join us in our meeting and sharing wisdom that is not always readily available. We hope to provide members with the opportunity to get to know successful business owners who like Larry offer mentorship in our general meetings. When founding the council, Larry was one of the first supporters and has since become a member and sponsor of The Manitoba Filipino Business Council. If you weren’t at the last meeting, we wish you could have been there! Fortunately there is more to come and we welcome you to join us.
