The Winnipeg Jets earned 9 points out of a possible 12 points to close out the final six home games in February at MTS Centre. Those points came against wins over the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, and the Tampa Bay Lightning. One point from an overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers and another from the shootout loss against the St. Luis Blues. The final game against the Edmonton Oilers was a 5-3 loss. The Oilers visit marked the return of former Winnipeg Jet 1.0 goalie, Nikolai Khabibulin to Winnipeg. Unfortunately, due to a groin injury, Khabibulin was an injury scratch for the game.
March Madness
Jets roared into the final full month of the NHL regular season by hammering the visiting Florida Panthers 7-0. With three games in hand at the time, the Winnipeg Jets enjoyed top spot in the South East Division and third overall in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers have since reclaimed the third spot in the Eastern Conference and top of the Southeast Division. In a rare occurrence, 15,004 fans witnessed the first Flying W with a 5-on-1 in the third period as the Jets forward, Blake Wheeler scored on the amazing rush!
Wheeling & Dealing
On the final day of the trade deadline, the Jets acquired Grant Clitsome from the Columbus Blue Jackets off waivers to bring some depth into their already deep blue line of defensemen. As the deadline approached on what was seen as a quiet day on the trading block, Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheldayoff made is first NHL trade by sending veteran defenseman, Johnny Oduya to the Chicago Blackhawks. In return for Oduya, the Winnipeg Jets have Chicago’s second and third round picks in 2013.
Andrew Ladd Bobble Head
For those fortunate enough to hold a ticket for the Sunday, March 18th game against the Carolina Hurricanes, the first 10,000 fans at MTS Centre will receive a voucher good for one Andrew Ladd bobblehead. The bobblehead, which comes in a full-colour collector’s box, features the Jets team captain in his home blue uniform, equipped with stick and full equipment.
