Bookmark Hamiota on Google Maps as the next hotbed of Filipino basketball talent! Yes, that’s right, there’s a Filipino basketball tournament in Hamiota, Manitoba. In an 8-team tournament, Filipino basketball players from surrounding communities came together on June 29-30 at the Hamiota Collegiate Gym.
Teams from Neepawa, Brandon, Dauphin, Virden, Hamiota and Moosimin, SK were represented. Neepawa had three teams at the tournament.
Neepawa 1 was crowned the tournament champion with 1st runner up going to Virden. Neepawa 2 won 2nd runner up and Hamiota took 3rd runner up.
In case you don’t know where Hamiota is, it’s approximate 3.5hrs west of Winnipeg nestled along Highway 21 between Hwy 1 Trans-Canada and Hwy 16 Yellowhead
