The name of the new NHL team in Winnipeg is still up in the air. There have been a multitude of names suggested for the incoming Atlanta Thrashers so we decided to take a crack at designing a new logo. There have been logo and name contests along with a trademark reservation for the name, “Whiteout”. Other names that have been tossed around are the Polar Bears, Falcons or maybe the Winnpeg Pooh Bears.
We can tell you that 100% Filipino Journal will not be the new name of the Winnipeg hockey club. Regardless of what True North Sports & Entertainment call the new hockey team, the entire community in Manitoba will support them.
Our first thought at recreating a Filipino-esque hockey logo started with the Winnipeg Jets logo. It started with the J in the Jets that represented a hockey stick. Quite easily, that would be the J in the Journal hockey logo. After a couple early ideas, the circle around the Winnipeg Jets logo wasn’t looking quite right based on the length of the word, “JOURNAL”. We threw out the circle and replaced it with the shape of a hockey rink, adapted from the Vancouver Canucks stick & rink logo. After a few more revisions, adding, moving and scaling other elements in the design including the sun and stars from the Philippine flag, we came up with the Filipino Journal hockey logo.
