Kaleidoscope of colours of the costumes and floats, street dancing depicting some distinct Filipino indigenous groups, religious chants and songs, filipino music and some folksongs: these are what you will experience when you attend the 1st Manitoba Filipino Street Festival on August 25, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Garden City Shopping Centre.
And with more than 27 groups and associations, the festival focuses on the celebration of the Filipino culture. With decorated floats and street walking and dancing, this festival will serve a reminder of the richness of our heritage.
And there will be shows at the parking lot and inside the Garden City Shopping Centre. There will be also a cultural display and some business booths inside the shopping centre. Added to the excitement is the contest for best float and marching, costume and dancing.
The more than 27 groups and associations include Alklan Association of Manitoba, Organization of Filipino Seniors in Manitoba (OFSAM),Bacoor Association of Manitoba,FILCASA, Association of La Sallians in Manitoba, Filipino Seniors Group, Sikaram School of Martial Arts, Pateros Association, Anak, Bibak Association, UST Alumni Association of Manitoba, Sikaran School of Martial of Canada, Isabela Association, Tribu Sugbo, Philippine Basketball Assocation (PBA). Pangasinan Group of Manitoba, Winnipeg Chruch of Christ, Association of Ilocano in Manitoba, Winnipeg Transit Drivers Association, Angono Rizal Association,Manitoba Filipino Business Council, Bulacan Association of Manitoba, Trupang Taguig, Quezon Province Association of Manitoba (QPAM), Tau Gamma, Pathfinder Radio, Ilokano Association of Winnipeg (ILAW), Guimbanaian Association of Manitoba, Masonic Group and Truch Cab Inc.
The program includes: 8 a.m. assembly, ; 10 a.m. parade starts; 11:45, Philippine National Anthem and Oh Canada; 12 noon, greetings from the guests, 12:20 p.m. ribbon cutting and symbolic release of ballloons; 12:45 open house. Cultural display, associations and groups’ booth, kids’ booth; 1:30 p.m. Cultural performances inside Garden City Shopping Centre: centre court; 3:30 p.m. Program at the Garden City Parking lot begins with individual and group performances, recognition awards for volunteers, sponsors, organizers and supporters, participating organizations, groups and associations; and awarding the best float award, best dance groups award and best costume award.
