The bidding for the privatization of the operation and maintenance of Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 and the contract to design and build the LRT-MRT Common Station in Quezon City has been suspended by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC).
DoTC technical working group on railway projects chairman Lawyer Hernando Cabrera said the special bids and awards committee decided to suspend the bidding of the two public-private partnership projects in view of the change in leadership in the DoTC..
Cabrera said they received a letter from Congress urging the DoTC to let incoming Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II to review the contracts. Roxas will assume office on July 1.
The P15-billion contract involves the operation and maintenance of LRT 1 and MRT 3 for four years, and the P1.5-billion contract to construct the LRT-MRT Common Station in a year, So far 10 contractors have expressed their interests to bid for the contract to design and build the Common Station that will link the LRT 1, MRT 3 and the proposed MRT 7. Bid documents worth P150,000 are available to the contractors until August 17, a day before the deadline of submission of bids set on August 18.
Prior to the resignation of DoTC Secretary Jose “Ping” de Jesus, the deadline of submission of bids is set on July 11. At least 16 local and foreign firms have bought bid documents worth P500,000 and are eligible to submit bids for the contract.
