Division 1 Dream: Raizel Guinto Commits to Louisiana Tech

Raizel Guinto, all-star point guard with the Sisler Spartans is heading to play NCAA Division 1 basketball with the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters as she signed her letter of intent. On Wednesday, September 9th, Guinto along with family, friends and Sisler Spartans coach, Michael Tan and fellow Spartans teammates officially signed her letter of intent on the opening day of NCAA early signing period.

In September, Lady Techster co-head coach Scott Stoehr visited Winnipeg to invite Raizel and family and organize an official visit to Louisiana Tech. During her 3-day visit in October, Guinto gave her verbal committment to join the Lady Techsters.

Raizel Guinto is currently enrolled at Sisler High School and plays on the girl’s varsity team. The Spartan point guard helped her team win a 2nd consecutive Provincial Championship. During her time with the Spartans, the team has an overall record of 80 wins and 2 losses.

Her success at the school and provincial level has not gone unnoticed by Canada Basketball as she has been invited to 3 National assessment camps and last year she was one of 15 girl’s trying out for the National Cadet team that competed in Spain for the FIBA 17U World Championships.

Raizel has been regarded as the top point guard to come out of Western Canada. She has had multiple interest from Universities and Colleges throughout the United States and Canada, and she will be the 1st ever Spartan basketball player to play Division 1 basketball.
