De Leon couple’s account of Holy Land pilgrimage

Actor-host Joey de Leon and his wife, Eileen Macapagal-de Leon joined their friends on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land from March 13 to 23.

The de Leon couple was with Fr. Peter Coching and 14 other friends including newscaster Mike and wife Baby Enriquez.

According to Eileen’s account, the group first visited Cana, where Jesus performed His first miracle of changing water into wine. They also renewed our baptismal vows at the Jordan River, where John the Baptist baptized Jesus. The highlight of the trip was Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus where they visited the Church of the Nativity.

Eileen said the place that touched them most was the Basilica of the Agony of the Lord. Its main altar is the rock where Jesus prayed before He was seized and crucified. They also took side trips to the Dead Sea, Petra and Tel Aviv.

The pilgrimage will be shown in a Lenten special dubbed ‘Banal na Paglalakbay,’ on GMA 7, Maundy Thursday, at 7:30 p.m.
