The TIME 100 special issue of TIME Magazine named the late president Corazon Aquino among the 25 most powerful women of the 20th century Aquino who died last year due to colon cancer, was cited for her role in restoring democracy in the Philippines after the 1986 presidential election and toppling the Marcos dictatorship.
