Chavit Singson maintains son’s innocence on drug charges

Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson maintains his son, Congressman Ronald Singson, was framed by political enemies and business competitors as he insists that the latter is neither a drug user nor trafficker.

Singson added that the guilty plea to the charge of drug trafficking to be entered by his son in a hearing set in Hong Kong on Jan. 26 was mere legal strategy.

Several representatives called for the expulsion of the younger Singson from the House out of ‘delicadeza’ as they consider stepping down the most decent thing to do because of the gravity of the case. They also cited that lawmakers should be beyond reproach and that the image of congress as an institution will suffer as a whole.

The elder Singson for his part, also appeals to his son’s colleagues in congress not to be too hasty in judging the latter as his case isn’t finished yet.

The Ilocos Sur congressman is a known concert promoter, owner of cable music station Channel V and boyfriend of starlet Lovi Poe.
