The best way to get into the Halloween spirit is to carve a pumpkin. It was even more fun when Kildonan Place Shopping Centre invited the Filipino Journal to participate in their annual Carving For A Cause pumpkin carving media challenge.
The rules were pretty simple. One hour to carve and design a pumpkin. Once complete, the photos of the pumpkin creations were posted on the Kildonan Place Facebook Page for everyone to vote. There were sixteen media teams and one Winnipeg charity would earn $500 before Halloween based on overall LIKES. Each media team entered already guaranteed their respective charities a $100 donation for participating.
I decided to play the cute Disney angle and carve Olaf, the snowman from Disney’s Frozen. I think it worked. It worked well enough to secure the Funniest/Cutest Pumpkin award which also secured an additional $100 towards my charity – KidSport Manitoba.
Thanks to all my Facebook friends and followers, the Filipino Journal photo on the Kildonan Place Facebook Page received over 868 LIKES during the voting period. We ended up in 5th place behind the radio heavyweights – QX104/FAB94, 103.1 Virgin Radio, Power 97 and Jewel 101FM. Congratulations to Samantha and Brody for the awesome minion pumpkin and their charity, Winnipeg Humane Society.
But wait! Kildonan Place surprised all media participants by adding $0.10 per LIKE to each charity donation for all media teams. For the 868 LIKES, that was an additional $86.80 going to KidSport Manitoba. All in all, $286.80 is heading to KidSport Manitoba for carving a pumpkin!
But hold on! There’s one more thing. The Filipino Journal will match the Kildonan Place donation to KidSport Manitoba. That’s $573.60 to support all the good work of KidSport Manitoba.
Thank you to Kildonan Place for hosting a great community building event.
