Canadian Red Cross launches appeal for Philippine flood relief

The Red Cross has already provided 30,000 flood-affected people with emergency food packages and 22,000 people with hot meals in relief centers. Sanitation systems have been disrupted, increasing the potential for water-borne diseases. The Red Cross will support disease prevention, health and hygiene education for 10,000 families. Safe water and adequate sanitation will also be provided for 10,000 families, particularly those in evacuation centres.

The Philippine Red Cross has mobilized more than 800 staff and volunteers to provide first aid, psychosocial support, and emergency relief assistance to flood-affected communities. Philippine Red Cross staff and volunteers were immediately in the affected areas, evacuating residents, providing first aid and distributing emergency relief supplies. Red Cross volunteers rescued more than a thousand people and assisted in the evacuation of another 8,000. The Canadian Red Cross has a roster of trained delegates ready to be deployed quickly if needed.
