Bruinooge Campaign Calls for Volunteers to Fight Flood

April 5, 2011 Winnipeg, MB – Preparation for rising river levels has been the focus of all Manitobans for months now, and effective today, flood officials will be instructing over hundred homeowners along the Red River, including many in Winnipeg South, to begin constructing dykes.

“Winnipegers have a great tradition of coming together to help one another when needed, especially when it comes to flood fighting,” said Rod Bruinooge. “It is in the spirit of this tradition that I have asked all of our campaign volunteers who are physically able to assist with sandbagging operations. The campaign fight can wait and the fight to protect homes takes precedent”. Mr. Bruinooge says his campaign volunteers will switch their focus from knocking on doors and stuffing envelopes to assisting in sandbagging operations. “I encourage all Winnipegers to help make 2011 the most prepared it has ever been for flood waters.”

To join the Rod Bruinooge team of volunteers participating in sandbagging operations please contact his campaign headquarters at 989-8180 or the constituency office at 984-6787. For more information on flood preparation please call the City of Winnipeg’s 311 information centre.
