Banda Rito, Banda Roon

The coming months will surely be a Filipino Alternative Rock galore in Winnipeg. After the forthcoming gigs of local bands The 12/21 (at Canton Food Gallery, on February 11) and Traffikk Jamm (at Essence Event Centre, Garden City Canad Inn, on February 18), three prime Philippine bands who are touring North America are set to perform in the city.

Parokya ni Edgar (Mar. 26, Garrick Centre)

On March 26, purveyors of novelty-style Philippine Alternative Rock, Parokya ni Edgar will be gracing once again the stage of Garrick Centre (330 Garrick St., Downtown). The band—consisting of Chito Miranda (lead vocals), Buwi Meneses (bass guitar), Darius Semaña (lead guitar), Gab Chee Kee (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Dindin Moreno (drums, percussion)—is promoting their recently released, 10th studio album, 2016’s Pogi Years Old. Siakol and Grin Dept. (May 6, Essence Event Centre, Canad Inn Garden City)

On May 6, two more pioneering Philippine Alternative Rock bands are coming to town—Siakol and Grin Dept., whose wacky and infectious songs have become regular staples on Philippine radio stations for decades now—“Peksman,” “Lakas Tama,” and “Gawing Langit ang Mundo”; and “Miss U (Miss, Miss sa Loob ng Jeepney),” “Fininger,” and “Bawal sa Party,” respectively. Catch the Alternative Rockers as they light the stage of Essence on sonic fire. This event is produced by Jhayzon Paredes and the rest of his Jaizen Design.
