Aquino names new PNP chief

President Aquino has chosen Director Ricardo C. Marquez as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Marquez will formally assume the post on the same day when PNP officer-in-charge Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina retires from the service.

The selection of Marquez was formally announced by DILG Secretary Mar Roxas in a press briefing at Camp Crame. Marquez is a native of Maragondon, Cavite. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1982. He also studied in various fields both in the Philippines and abroad such as in France, USA, and China. He was the overall commander of the police task force that handled the visit of Pope Francis in January this year and the successful conduct of the series of international economic-related meetings in the country.
