Three of 7 Filipino suspect accused of stealing a US$1 million diamond-emerald necklace in Turkey have reportedly been arrested.
Earlier reports identified the 6 of the 7 Filipino suspects as Janice Apostol, Armando Fajardo, Edgardo Ramos, Cesar Galvez, Rosita Panlilio and a certain Herbie Cruz. The group was tagged as the suspects who stole the expensive jewelry from the Zela Jeweler booth during the 32nd Istanbul Jewelry Expo last month.
The remaining 4 suspects managed to slip out according to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) General Manager Jose Angel Honrado.
However, no other details were given regarding the identities and situations of the 3 arrested suspects. The expensive necklace was not also with the apprehended suspects. Honrado said the fact-finding team of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) will investigate how the 4 Filipino suspects be able to to exit the airport undetected.
Reports said the suspects also left NAIA airport without going through passport control.
He explained that prior to the arrest, they received a message regarding the arrival of the alleged suspects. A task force was immediately formed and this was headed by the NBI.
