2 Filipinos receive awards from Japan

Two Filipinos receive the prestigious Foreign Minister’s Commendations for 2015 by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for their outstanding contributions in promoting mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and the Philippines.

Awards will be given posthumously to the late Prof. Sylvano Dong- E Mahiwo and to Gerard Sanvictores of Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co.
The award was presented by Japanese Ambassador to manila, Kazuhide Ishikawa in a conferment ceremony held at the ambassador’s official residence in Forbes Park Makati yesterday.

Professor Mahino was a professor at the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines, Diliman prior to his death last July 20 at the age of 64.

He taught various graduate levels courses including Japanese Foreign Policy throughout his academic career at Asian Center.

The Ifugao native took part in various initiatives strengthening Philippine-Japan relations.

Meanwhile, Gerard Sanvictores, is a certified public accountant who joined Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co. in 1978. In 1981, he was endorsed to SGV Tsuda Ltd. where he assisted in the promotion of Japanese overseas direct investment to the Philippines and other Southeast Asian Countries.
