WAAY Basketball – Championship round up

WAAY Basketball – Championship round up

WAAY Basketball Championships wrapped up the 2010/11 season on Sunday March 27th, 2011 at Tec-Voc High School. An amazing crowd of over 500 spectators filled the bleachers to watch kids aged 5-16 take to the court on the final championship weekend.

This year’s closing ceremonies and finals were the biggest and best in WAAY’s long history. The crowds were loud and full of energy as the kids took to the hardcourt on Championship Sunday.

Here are the final results:

Bantam Division
Champions: Team Red (Coach Joey Ordonez); 2nd Place: Team Orange (Coach Ricky Alcera) and 3rd Place: Team Royal Blue (Coach Joel delas Alas)

PeeWee Division
Champions: Team Red (Coaches Sonny Lavarias & John Aaron); 2nd Place—Team Black (Coach Arsenio dela Cruz) and 3rd Place: Team Royal Blue (Coach Roldan Comia)

Tykes Division
Champions: Team Red (Coach Edwin Garing); 2nd Place: Team Light Blue (Coach Rhexzy Medrano) and 3rd Place: Team Purple (Coach Ray Macalalad)

Jr. Tykes Division
Champions: Team Black (Coach Evert Pacheco); 2nd Place: Team Purple (Coach Mike Wynne) and 3rd Place: Team Red (Coach Edwin Garing)

Those that were in attendance packed the entire gym, by the time the Jr. Tykes and Tykes finals games took place, Tec-Voc became a “standing room only” as the gym was filled with spectators from courtside to the top of the bleachers.

The roar of the crowd was unlike anything WAAY has ever witnessed as games came down to the wire and Championships were decided over mere baskets and an overtime heartbreaker.

WAAY would like to thank all volunteer committee and their families for all their time, hard work and dedication to this non-profit organization for a wonderful and successful season!

Without the volunteers, this league would not be possible. THANK YOU for all your continued support and to the entire Filipino community! THANK YOU to all of our sponsors: Basketball Manitoba, Sport Manitoba, Garden City Shopping Centre, Vickar Mitsubishi, McDonald’s of Canada, Platinum Promotions, Trophy Connection and The Filipino Journal.

As WAAY strives to improve and provide the very best experience for our youths today. We hope to see you all next season!!!

Thank you from the WAAY Committee.
