What’s new with UMSigaw:

Greetings everyone!

In the midst of coming to the end of the school year for us University students, UMSigaw would like to keep you updated regarding the org’s activities, the renewal of our structure, and details about our Bursary – The UMSigaw “Tinig ng Pilipinas” Bursary.

Towards the end of March, a bakesale was held in support of raising funds for the bursary. It was successful and a lot of fun! We would like to thank those who came to support our bakesale by bringing baked goods, or buying them too!

Due to certain circumstance, the Executive officers along with the members of UMSigaw have decided to change the structure of the group. It’s Executive team will no longer be consisted of hierarchical positions, but instead be consisted of a Board of Directors with equal power and equal responsibilities. An election has taken place to for next year’s positions. However, two spots remain open. Details about how the development of the structure came about, along with the results for next year’s leaders have been posted on the website. Furthermore, if you are interested in being considered as a member of the Executive team, please let us know!

Later this month, we will be having a potluck to celebrate the end of the school year, and to welcome the new team. It will be held on Thursday, April 28th in the Student Resource Centre at 1:30 p.m. We invite you bring some baked goods, or pagkain. Fun and games will be provided by us! Take this opportunity to meet your new officers and bring with you the ideas you may have to better improve the org or concerns you would like to be addressed for next year. For more details on the event, please visit our event page on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=100813593339323

Lastly, I would like to remind you of our purpose. “The Mission of UMSigaw is to promote the value of post-secondary education to the Filipino youth in the city of Winnipeg, primarily by providing financial assistance through bursaries, having an alternative non-profit system of accessing books and school materials, and offering effective tutorials through a more personal peer-to-peer approach, in hopes of producing successful graduates who will proceed to become role models to the Filipino Community.”

Our main purpose is to help aid students who are pursuing post-secondary education by providing them with financial assistance through our annual bursary – the UMSigaw “Tinig ng Pilipinas” Bursary. The Application Form for the Bursary is now available to be downloaded from our website. The deadline to submit the Application Form is on Friday, June 24th, 2011. Details regarding the Rules and Requirements for the Bursary are stated on the Application itself.

In order to properly fund these bursaries, we collect donations and hold several fundraisers throughout the entire school year. With the help of certain stores throughout the city, we are accepting donations through our donation cans. For more details as to which stores you can make your donations, please visit our website. We have also held – and are striving to keep on holding – numerous events and activities to collect funds for the bursary.

Although the school year is coming to an end for most University students, this year’s Executive Officers still have a lot of things planned so please stay tuned for our updates. Please visit our website: http://umsigaw.org and add us on Facebook by searching “Um Sigaw”.

On behalf of the entire Executive team of 2010-2011 school year, we would like to thank you for your continued support and we can only hope that it continues!

We wish you all the best,
Linger Ann Aragon
UMSigaw, President
