It’s thumbs up for Prime Minister Stephen Harper as Canadians went to the polls and finally gave the Conservatives a majority with 167 seats. After three minority governments, the Conservatives begin their four year term and no federal election until 2015.
In polls leading up to election night, the prospect of an NDP surge came to life with the NDP winning a historic 102 seats and crushing the Liberals and the Bloc Québécois in it’s wake. Jack Layton and the NDP become the official opposition.
Green Party leader, Elizabeth May won her seat in BC to become the first Green Party member elected to Parliament. Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff and BQ leader, Gilles Duceppe both failed to win their own ridings.
