(Not All Popular People Have an Obligation to Engage with Their so-called Fans)

Obligásyon nga ba ng mga sikát na ngumitî palagì sa madlâ?

*Politicians & Religious Leaders*
Only politicians and religious leaders are the ones whom I consider public servants. They get their money from taxpayers and from donations, respectively–so they have an obligation to serve their constituents or flocks. Besides, the services that these people provide–the essence of their very jobs–are founded on public service, honesty, accountability, morality, and (in the case of politicians) lawmaking and law enforcement.

*Celebrities*
On the other hand, athletes, movie/T.V. personalities, artists, and other celebrities are “public figures” only because they are popular or excellent in their chosen field of entertainment. But they have no direct obligation to engage with their fans outside of their games or shows or to be forced to serve as “morality” role models. Their main job is only to entertain or express their art. They are athletes, actors, musicians, artists–not moral crusaders. Their salaries are out of their talents and products (art and music).

That’s the difference.

*Fans*
Fans don’t own the time of their “idols” outside the idols’ work hours. That’s their private moment. And don’t force them to be role models of morality. Rather, make them role models of only their respective field of sports or arts.

*Moral Crusaders*
Politicians and religious leaders, however, are considered public servants 24/7, so they, in essence, don’t have privacy. They are the ones who should act decently anytime of the day and who should serve as role models of decency, honesty, and morality to everyone, because their job is to make laws, enforce these, and (for religious leaders) to promote morality.
Therefore, I don’t respect religious leaders who engage in vices (smoking, drinking, gambling, etc.) and politicians who are immoral and corrupt.
