An evening with the MFBC and Sharon Evans
The MFBC had another successful event well attended by the members to listen to the coach, author, speaker and trainer Sharon Evans. She has a technology background, has been in business for 9 years (3 businesses), and is a board member of the Women’s Business Owners of Manitoba. Sharon’s presentation focused on how to get “MORE”. She presented a short exercise and statistics on how MULTITASKING can take longer than using your time more wisely by concentrating on one topic/task at a time. She went on to present facts about SWITCHTASKING a culprit of inefficiency and low productivity in the work place. Save time by only doing one thing at once. Women are usually better switch taskers than men – this fact caused chuckles amongst the MFBC members.
She shared tips about managing e-mail responses, as e-mail itself is also slows down work flow. Tips included to set an out of office reply to let clients and anyone e-mailing you know that you have a time period in your day to respond to e-mails. This way you are not spending your day exclusively on e-mails – this is the same for phone calls – set your message to state the time period you are available.
She went further to share advice on how to make people (your employees, clients and loved ones) feel important by practicing proper smart phone etiquette which is a fast growing communication trend that requires a conscientious effort to keep ensure respect in our business and personal relationships; so, do not talk and text at the same time.
Final thoughts from Sharon ranged from – finding your “niche” passion, making that your career guide and really showing people what that is about ( perhaps writing a book!!! Check out Sharon’s book Zoomfactor). The information above only describes the tip of the iceberg when it comes to bringing focus and clarity to aspects of your life in business.
Also, it was a great inspiration to meet two home grown successful businesses run by two young and dynamic Filipino Business owners Tia Provici of PROVICI Cosmetics and Mike Nava owner of Connect Four Clothing who shared their experiences, challenges and successes in business ownership. Their shop was the venue of the evening was full of ideas, advice, fun, motivation, and inspiration that evening not to mention fashion! It is beneficial to meet with other members of our business communities and to bring back valuable friendships and information to improve our business and personal lives.
If you missed this presentation and wine and cheese event, don’t miss anymore! We would be happy to have you join us. Next MFBC meeting will be held at Canad Inn’s on June 16th at 7 pm..
