Lovers of band concerts in the Filipino community have been lucky for so many years for having experienced a regular stream of Philippine-based Filipino bands that have been performing in the city for the past many years. These sources of entertainment would have not been possible if not for the effort and hard work of our local concert producers, who practically gamble their money and other resources and spend time in organizing a team to be able to enable Philippine bands to stage shows here in Winnipeg. Of the few number of local producers concentrating on Alternative Rock band music, two prove to be prolific: Jhayzon Paredes (Jaizen Design) and Marby John Aguilar Gutierrez (Pinoy Tribe Entertainment). Paredes started the trade as early as 2006, producing the first concert of Siakol in Winnipeg, so it is quite a full-circle turn as the down-to-earth Paredes is staging again Siakol’s gig in Winnipeg, along with fellow Philippine Alterative Rock band Grin Dept., this coming May 6, at Essence Event Centre, at Garden City Canad Inn complex.
Gutierrez, on the other, began in 2011, producing the second time of Parokya ni Edgar to perform in the city; and aptly, Gutierrez is paving again the way of the wacky and lovable band to the stage of Garrick Centre in Downtown Winnipeg, this March 26. In the next issue, you will get to know better Paredes and Gutierrez and their respective related accomplishments and what drove them to engage in such a painstaking and time-consuming endeavor. In the meantime, get your tickets now for the forthcoming concerts. Get in touch with Paredes at 204.8991765; and with Gutierrez at 204-962-2903.
