Garden City Community Centre announces new General Manager

After an extensive third party search, conducted by Pinnacle, Garden City Community Centre is excited to announce the appointment of Andrew Skogen as the new General Manager of Garden City Community Centre. In this position, he will be responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, executing, controlling, and reporting on all programs and the overall operations of Garden City Community Centre, including the Seven Oaks Soccerplex and Seven Oaks Arena. Skogen will manage the transition from the construction to operating phase; being involved with the building commissioning, managing departmental training, and establishment of necessary controls and systems.

Skogen brings 12 years of experience in the community centre world as the General Manager of Riverview Community Centre and most recently the East St Paul Community Centre. Skogen has also been a part of the board of directors at the Gateway Recreation Centre where he held a variety of positions including 6 years as the President of the centre. Skogen has his Bachelor of Recreation Management and Community Development Degree from the University of Manitoba with a minor in business at the Asper School of Business. He brings expertise in Community Development, Facility Planning, Special Events Planning, Program Planning, Leadership, Labor Relations, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior and Marketing.

His experience creating programming, running tournaments, securing revenue, managing staff and facility management will be instrumental in the success of the Seven Oaks Arena that will be opening in April 2015. Skogen also has worked in a variety of positions at Rogers Communications in sponsorship, sales, and training, which brings another incredible dynamic to this role.
