DA considers holding off salmon and pompano sale ban

The Department of Agriculture is considering lifting the ban on the sale of imported fish like salmon and pompano in wet markets following a substantial backlash from lawmakers on the restriction under the BFAR Fisheries Administrative Order No 195 that was first set in policy in 1999 but was only implemented recently.

Agriculture Deputy Spokesperson Rex Estoperez said the DA scheduled with the BFAR to discuss its Administrative Order No. 195 and “other regulations pertaining to that.” A decision will be made before the BFAR begins confiscating imported pompano and salmon on Dec 4.

The DA official said the agencies will review the policy to see if it is still relevant.
