Colonel Ramon Zagala, Public Information Chief of the AFP said in an interview that the military remains partisan-free and professional as he denied reports that discontented members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are plotting a coup d’état against the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
Zabala added that some retired and inactive members of the military who reportedly expressed feeling of resentment against the government are now mere civilians exercising their freedom of expression and assembly.
AFP Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Pio Gregorio Catapang likewise warned the Philippine military troops against meddling in the country’s political chaos amid the growing disappointment in the Aquino government. Aquino’s mother, former President Corazon Aquino survived numerous coup attempts during her administration.
