The best of men and women comes during the time of needs, this sums up when the Canadian Red Cross, through Lieutenant Governor Philip Lee, invited the officers and members of the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to the awarding of certificate of appreciation and reception held at the Government House recently. This special gathering recognizes the untireless effort of the men and women who had volunteered to raise funds for the Haiyan typhoon victims in the Philippines.
During the ceremony, Shawn Feely, Red Cross Provincial Director, said: “We at the Red Cross, are inspired by this amazing community that always rallies together to help those that are in need. The Red Cross wouldn’t be able to help those affected by disaster without support from these incredible organizations.”
The guests representing various companies and organizations from the different parts in Winnipeg and Manitoba attended the ceremony and a reception was held after the commendation of the volunteers. From the Filipino community, the following groups were given recognition for their efforts in raising funds for the Haiyan typhoon victims: The Manitoba Council of Canadian Filipino Associations Inc. (MaCCFA); the organizers of “SHOW FOR THE PHILIPPINES”, a fund raising concert held at the Burton Cummings Theatre; the ZUMBA Group and the Philippine Nurses Association of Manitoba. Some Filipino-Canadians volunteers represented their companies that did the fund raising for the Red Cross.
Every guest enjoyed the food and the hospitality of the Lt. Gov. Phillip and his wife, Anita Lee and their staff at the Government House.
