Inspired by the God-given mission of Building A New Church (BANC) and by the spirit of Christian Stewardship, children, youth and adults have shared their time, talents and treasure to produce the variety show dubbed, “PROCLAIMING CHRIST ALWAYS”.
Proclaiming Christ Always is the theme of the yearlong celebration marking the 100th year anniversary of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. Furthermore, the 40th anniversary of St. Peter’s Church as a house of prayer coincides with this Jubilee Year. Henceforth, this production has these fourfold objectives: (a) to celebrate the Centenary of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg and the 40th year of St. Peter’s church, (b) to develop and showcase the talents of the parishioners, (c) to help raise funds for the BANC (Building A New Church) of the parish, and (d) to strengthen the Christian Solidarity of the faithful.
The show will be held in Pantages Playhouse Theatre at 180 Market Avenue on November 28, 2015 at 3:30PM (Matinee) and 7:00PM (Gala). Rev. Msgr. Enrique M. Samson, Jr., the Parish Priest and the executive producer and over-all in charge of production is very grateful to God and inspired by the cooperation and coordination of the different WESTOY (Worship, Education, Service, Temporalities, Organizing and Youth) Ministries.
Rev. Msgr. Samson said, “It is a graceful sight that talented performers are very generous to share different talents with co-performers. It is so inspiring to see our adult parishioners are fully supporting our youth from preparing food to selling of tickets and many other ways. This is Christianity in Action!”
The new St. Peter’s Church complex will be composed of the Worship Area, which can accommodate 1500 faithful, future St. Peter’s K to 8 Catholic School and the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH), which can cater to sports events, wedding and birthday banquets, and other civic functions. The complex will have more or less 500 parking stalls. The construction process will be done in phases starting with the Multi-Purpose Hall, which by God’s grace, will be started spring of 2016.
As for the moment, we have reached the 60% Archdiocesan requirement of the total amount of the Phase 1-A and henceforth, we are very positive that His Grace, Archbishop Richard Gagnon with the members of the Archdiocesan Finance Council, will grant us permission to proceed with actual construction.
Actually, the inception of the plan to expand the present church building started in 1996 and yet, the full implementation started in 2007 for the reasons of overcrowding, traffic, parking spaces and health hazards mainly due to the influx of new immigrants. Rev. Msgr. Samson has stated, “the expression ‘man proposes, God disposes’ is indeed true”.
This variety show is just one of the many fundraising activities and there will be more in the future. And all of us, by the love of God, are encouraged to actively participate. Meanwhile, we urge you to watch this show for only $20.00. The show will be fun, exciting and above all, spiritually-enhancing. Furthermore, “the charity of Christ urges us” to offer pledges or cash donations for the On This Rock Fundraising Campaign.
After all, let us remember that this future church will be our legacy for the next generations to come. As one of the song entitled “In Perfect Harmony” states: ‘…come let us join our hearts in one accord, in glorious never ending praise and worship of our God . . .we will stand united in one grand community!’
