The Philippine Heart Association, during a Laging Handa briefing last March 3rd, reported that the cases of Heart Disease in the Philippines significantly increased by 28% which can be caused by the pandemic.
PHA President Dr Gibert Vilela said that this rise in cases is surprising and frightening and that since it happened during the pandemic, it ,means that the pandemic actually has an effect on cardiovascular disease.
Vilela said that cases might have increased because people with heart conditions were afraid to go to the hospitals as they may get infect by coronavirus . He added that anxiety and mental stress can also lead to heart disease.
Vilela called on people diagnosed with cardiovascular disease to get their booster shots as this will give them another layer of protection from the virus.
