One of the memorable moments of Valerie Herbert was when she was proclaimed and crowned as the 2018 Queen of the Original Filipino Seniors Association of Manitoba, Inc during its 41st Anniversary celebration and Christmas party held recently at Viscount Gort Hotel.
Full entertainment numbers performed by her sons, Jesus Joaquin Ortiz and Francisco Ortiz; special number performed by Paul Ong; followed by a duo, Gloria Agravante and Josha Manzanilla.
Letty Duque Antonio, OFSAM president, extended greetings and acknowledged special guests. Valerie’s daugther, Isolina Yumul Harper read the bio of her mother.
Escorted by her grandson, Johnny, Valerie Herbert entered the hall with pageantry as officers and members and guests welcomed the new 2018 OFSAM’s Queen as proclaimed by Ms. Letty Antonio.
Corsage was pinned by Zeny Calimlim and Cezar Fronda; Councillor Cindy Gilroy, escorted by Wade Parker, clipped the sash while OFSAM’s Queen 2017 Clarita Ortega Nazario, OFSAM’s vice president, and Wab Kinew, NDP leader, put the crown; bouquet of flowers was handed by Rod E. Cantiveros, Filipino Journal Publisher, and Hilaria Calo, and Valerie’s siblings. A trophy was given by Tony and Letty Antonio; and gifts were given by OFSAM members and Valerie’s family members.

Queen Valerie Herbert is now the official entry candidate for the forthcoming Mrs. Philippines Manitoba 2019 beauty pageant sponsored by Manitoba Council of Canadian Filipino Associations Inc, headed by Julie Holand Javier as MaCCFA’s president.
