Aside from the country’s very own Maxine Medina, two other candidates of the 65th Miss Universe have Pinoy blood.
Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier, who won 1st runner-up, is part Filipino on her mother’s side of the family but never had the chance to be with her relatives. She also shared that she almost didn’t make it to the Philippines because the Haiti government was unable to support her, considering the recent earthquake that hit their country. Miss New Zealand Tania Pauline Dawson, on the other hand, has a Filipino mother who hails from Santa Maria, Pangasinan. She considered competing for the 65th Miss Universe in the Philippines as ‘fate’.
