Jaclyn Jose believed that the scene in “Ma’Rosa” showing her eating fishball had clinched for her the most coveted Best Actress award in the recent Cannel Film Festival.
The veteran actress said she did the scene from her heart, adding that most award-winning films have a scene that stands out in the minds of festival jurors.
On premiere night in Cannes, the audience gave the film a standing ovation that lasted for some seven minutes, turning director Brillante Mendoza emotional.
Jury members Donald Sutherland and Arnaud Desplechin were all praises Jaclyn’s performance. The other members of the jury were George Miller, Kirsten Dunst, Valeria Golino, Mads Mikkelsen, Laszlo Nemes, Vanessa Paradis and Katayoon Shahabi. Jaclyn has encouraged local moviegoers to watch “Ma’Rosa,” which deals with the tenacity of a mother to do everything for her family.
