For the past 48 years, Garden City has been supporting the everyday needs of Winnipeggers’ in the area. The shopping centre recently underwent a significant renovation to modernize the space and better serve the needs of the community.
Garden City Shopping Centre is now redeveloping the space formerly occupied by Sears. The 92,000 square foot area will be divided into multiple units and will ultimately provide an improved shopping experience, welcome new retailers and create employment opportunities in the community. A lease has been signed with Seafood City Supermarket; a new-to-Winnipeg iconic Filipino-focused grocer. Seafood City Supermarket is known in North America as the leading one-stop market, shopping, dining and retail hub catering to the Asian/ Filipino lifestyle with locations in Southern and Northern California, Seattle/Washington, Hawaii, Chicago/Illinois, Nevada, and Mississauga/Canada. Seafood City Supermarket will occupy approximately 43,000 square feet, and plans to open in Garden City in summer 2019.
The former Sears location will be reformatted to accommodate a second large format tenant in addition to Seafood City, and the remaining space will become home to smaller stores. A new entrance fronting onto McPhillips street will also be created as part of the renovation.
“We are a proud member of the Winnipeg community and we are excited to start phase two of our redevelopment. We look forward to welcoming Seafood City Supermarket and announcing the other exciting additions that will allow us to better support the daily needs of our customers.” said Rebecca Hyatt, Property Manager of RioCan’s Manitoba Portfolio.
